My Experience at the Cirque du Soleil Red Carpet

Cirque du soleil

I am a huge Cirque du Soleil fan… but then again isn’t everyone? When Alegria was brought back to celebrate the shows 25th anniversary, of course I had to check it out! Originally I hoped to see the show and didn’t know anything about the Cirque du Soleil Premiere event to celebrate!

The original show premiered in the Old Port of Montreal on April 18, 2019 before it started a limited tour under the Cirque’s iconic blue and white big top tent. It was also the first Cirque du Soleil show I ever saw.

Cirque du Soleil

I not only got to see the show, but I got to go to the  25th Anniversary Premiere! I was excited.  The original show premiered in April in the Old Port of Montreal too, but in 1994. Even though I was just getting over a cold, my kids had other activities that evening, NOTHING was going to stop me! I grabbed my friend and we made it on time for champagne and the show! Now just to point out that I have been to other opening nights of shows before and was thinking along lines of those shows. I was not prepared for what was involved in a Cirque du Soleil ‘Premiere’ and re-introduction of the iconic Alegria show.

A bit about Alegria

Alegiria is Cirque du Soleil’s most internationally acclaimed show. It has successfully toured for 19 years with over 6,000 shows in 40 countries around the world. Some of the 14 million spectators who saw it must have loved it because the Alegria soundtrack is Crique’s best selling album to date. I can see why. Once you hear the song it’s hard to get it out of your head… just writing this story I am singing it.

The actual show is focused on the power struggle of new and old. The new rendition encompasses traditional acrobatics and youthful visions to slay old nations and spread happiness and joy. For those of us who didn’t know Alegria is a Spanish word that translates to ‘happiness and joy’. The show aspires to energize fans with a joyful spirit for a brighter and inspiring tomorrow.  Really I love it because it was my first and it’s just amazing!

What happens at a Cirque du Soleil Premiere?

Before I go further I have to remind you that this wasn’t just a Cirque du Soleil premiere, it was a premiere for one of Cirque du Soleil’s best shows that was also celebrating 25 years since it originally premiered. I don’t want you to read this and then be disappointed that if you go see it you won’t be handed champagne and interact with clowns. Trust me, even without all the hoopla the show is WORTH SEEING!

Well first thing we learned is that there really is a red carpet. Again, I was just barely holding it together and was NOT red-carpet ready, so we skipped that part.

Cirque du Soleil

After the main red carpet for the celebrities there was a more ‘real’ one where you can get a photo with an entertainer in the show. That one we did.

Which took awhile to get a nice one. These Cirque du Soleil clowns really take their job seriously!

And yes there really was champagne too!  Champagne is one of my favorite drinks… so this alone made me HAPPY!

Cirque du soleil

Now don’t get me wrong. All these nice things were great. There was so much going on at the Cirque du Soleil premier of Alegria you almost forget the fact that we got to see an amazing show! And the show was AMAZING!

Cirque du soleil

One nice extra they had that night was people doing make up… I did mention I was still feeling under the weather when I went to this show… so that was our first stop. Well after the champagne and popcorn!

Cirque Du Soleil

It wasn’t just all drinks either… there was some amazing food!

They even had a chocolatier making custom chocolate on site for you to take home as you leave. Or you could have also gone home with a paper crane that a ballerina was handing out! Yep… a ballerina standing on her toes and everything! I so wish I could have brought my kids to this Cirque du Soleil premiere… they would have loved it!

Here’s a more ‘professional’ video to give you a sense of what the night was about. For some reason they didn’t want a quote from me…

And a glimpse at some of the performers of the amazing Cirque show Alegria:

Sad you missed Alegria?

Wish you would have seen Alegria earlier this year? There’s still time to see a Cirque du Soleil show before 2019 ends. Building up on the success of their first acrobatic performance on ice ‘Crystal’, Cirque du Soleil has created ‘AXEL’.

What do #AXELCirque fans love about this acrobatic on-ice experience!? Here’s what they had to say! 😍🎶⛸🤸

You can check out AXEL December 19-29 at Bell Centre in downtown Montreal. AXEL showcases spectacular world-class skating, acrobatics and all the things you come to expect from Cirque du Soleile… but on ice! You will join AXEL and his crew as they go on an adventure as he follows his passion for music and graphic arts. There is a love interest in ‘Lei’ and together they go on a quest through colorful worlds to find a stolen light from ‘Vi’.

Not sure about you, but my kids are love skating and they love shows. Sadly, they are getting a bit too big for Disney on Ice, but they are going to LOVE AXEL!

Tickets will make a great gift for young or old kids on your list. If you lucky you can find tickets on sale for Black Friday.
