Traveling with your Dyslexic Child

Travel with Dyslexic child

Traveling with any child can be a stressful adventure, but traveling with a child who has a learning disability like dyslexia requires you to pack a few extra skills in your travel bag. We love to travel, and as my daughter (who has dyslexia) got older, we started to find ways to adapt our travel so she enjoyed every travel experience and did not feel left out due to her dyslexia.

Recently I got to write a story for The Traveling Mom to share some of tips that worked with my dyslexic daughter.

Some tips I share in the story are:

  • Find things your child likes to encourage them to read about places. Before we went to Italy both my kids had to pick one place we were visiting and read about it to be our guide that day.
  • Load up your ipad with audiobooks to ensure they read more while away from school. The Traveling Mom reviewed the Tales2Go Travel App audiobooks.
  • Also, I shared an example of a packing list of photos that I make for my daughter.
