Ice Fishing in Laval

Ice Fishing Laval

Looking for something to do to get outside? Just want to get out and enjoy some of the warmer winter weather? Why not go Ice Fishing in Laval? In Ste-Rose, Laval, just north of Montreal there are two places where you can go ice fishing. Being the home of the worlds oldest and largest outdoor winter festival (Carnaval de Québec), Quebec  has proven it’s LOVE of being outdoors, especially in winter.

Like any outdoor activity, it’s dependent on the weather, but since the weather is looking to be warmer lately you may want to make sure you get out and take advantage of the nice weather before Spring is here.

Ice Fishing at Berge des Baigneurs

I have to say that Berge des Baigneurs ice fishing in Laval is my favorite place for ice fishing and outdoor activities.

Don’t know how to Ice Fish?

You can do guided family fishing most weekends from 1 to 4p.m. You will learn all about ice fishing, good fishing practices, the different species of fish in the river, the anatomy of the fish, the history of fishing or about the different fishing techniques.  The Grassroots Fishing Program allows children aged 9 to 12 to get a fishing license valid until their 18th birthday, a Guliver guide and a gimble to hold your ice fishing rod. Call 450 662-1020, ext. 227 to register your kids beforehand.

What else is there other than Ice Fishing?

I have to say I started going to Berge des Baigneurs even before there was ice fishing. We would go and walk our dogs on the ice out to a small island on a pathway that was outlined with trees. Pay attention to the trees, these show the path where the ice is the thickest so don’t walk outside the pathway. This is also the site of Lavel en Blanc, so they also have a lot of other activities going on like a long ice skating pathway, a rink for playing hockey, sliding, ice sculptures and more!

Another great thing is that this ice fishing is located on the pathway in Rosemere that links to walking paths that takes you all along old Ste Rose. There are also a bunch of cute restaurants and coffee shops in the area so you can grab brunch before or dinner after your visit.

Ice Fishing at Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles

This is another place to go ice fishing in Laval I didn’t know about until recently when my friend had her kids birthday party there. They also offer turnkey guided ice fishing & kids program on Saturdays and Sundays 1- 4 p.m. and have other activities like ice skating, hockey and sliding, but on a bit smaller scale than Berge des Baigneurs. This place is more focused on ice fishing and has had great success with their spring and summer activities of kayaking and boating.

A great benefit they have is that their fishing huts are HEATED!! And the wood for the fire is included in the price of the rental (along with bait, 10 fishing rods, 10 holes cut in the ice, a skimmer and carrying case).

This heated hut makes a big difference if you are going when it’s colder than -20. They also have bigger huts that are great if you are wanting to have a party there with a larger group.
